Backstreet’s Back, Alright!!!

20 Jan

It all started with New Kids On The Block at the South Dakota State Fair in the late 80s.   I had never been to a concert before, and I don’t think my mom had been to one in a while either.  “The girls are screaming like it’s The Beatles!” I can remember my mom shouting over the squeal of the crowd as we watched New Kids come out on the stage.  I remember thinking that I couldn’t imagine anyone screaming for The Beatles.  I didn’t like them, even then.

We set our sights higher on the KDWB Backstsreet Boys, Next, and Jennifer Paige summer concert in Minneapolis.  “Taking the girls to concerts” became a good way for my mom and my aunt Garnie to justify a trip away for the weekend…and squeeze in a lot of little shopping in Minneapolis.   Although by the end of the trip I wonder if they thought the shopping the got to do was worth spending that much time in a mini-van with 6 girls who were all fighting over what Backstreet Boy they had a crush on.    Ahh….Kevin.

This summer, New Kids and the Backstreet Boys are touring together as NKOTBSB and will be at the Target Center in Minneapolis on July 15th.  I think I may have to organize a girls trip concert reunion.  Done and done.  See ya there.

I’d like to tag along, if that’s possible. I’m hearing that AJ is having some problems again. He’s the bad boy.

I saw this on the side bar with the other blogs and I thought, “wait a second, did I see something on the Backstreet Boys just now??” I was actually clicking on a link to another blog when I saw this one at the last second, thus, automatically having me click the back button on my browser so I could check it out. I’ve been listening to the Backstreet Boys off and on probably since 1997-1998 (their self-titled album came out after the flood of ’97 in Grand Forks… can’t imagine what would’ve happened if they’d released it right when the flood was going on!) one of my mom’s day care kids was into these guys, and I admit I was a little skeptical at first, as the kid was listening to “We’ve Got It Goin’ On” (self-titled album) and there was that small rapping part they did in that song. I’d been exposed to a tiny bit of rap before the BSB, and the first thing I thought of was, “oh gosh, there’s gonna be swearing… I just know it!” Thankfully there was no swearing of any kind and after a couple listens of our charges’ album, I really wanted to get my own as I’d finally fallin’ in love with it after a while. About 13 years later and I’m still loving them just as much now as I have back then! If you haven’t already, you’ll have to check out their newest album, “This Is Us” which came out in 2009. Yeah, a couple years old but it’s still really good! I saw BSB and NKOTB when they were on Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve on TV last year, and that was a very good performance. I don’t see myself going to concerts anytime soon as I have a bit of a thing with really large crowds and noise, but I always enjoy watching a performance of theirs on TV. Haven’t seen any televised performances as of now (2011) but I’ve seen a couple of them prior to Dick Clark, and it seems like the Boys just get better and better all the time!
