Love him or hate him, Chris Brown makes hits.
And I’m not talking about the kind he put on Rihanna. He was rocketing toward Timberlake-sized greatness before the whole abuse scandal broke. But it has been a couple of years and it appears he is on his way to try and recover some of his career.
Other tracks he’s put out since then have been a little too electronic/dance for me. How can that be when I love electronic music you may ask? Because when R&B artists try to head to the middle of the road and make dance records, they end up as generic songs that don’t resemble anything that sounds like R&B.
I.E. Usher. They aren’t good dance songs and they aren’t catchy R&B. They just are.
But “Deuces” has surprised me. It was released this some and has some electronic elements (simple synth bed) but not enough to overshadow it. The good folks at BET’s 106 & Park wouldn’t be embarrassed to spin this one on the countdown. I am currently enjoying the remix which was released about a month ago featuring Kanye, T.I., Fabolous and some other people. On repeat.
Here is the original. Chris Brown, “Deuces”:
