Remember ELO? They were the classic rock/strings group of the 70s with those unforgettable hooks that only a brisk jolt of Zepplin could chase from your head. Well if you still like the sound of Electric Light Orchestra but are too embarrassed to play songs like “Livin’ Thing” any louder than volume level 8 in your car I may have the solution for you. Let me introduce you to The Apples In Stereo.
Apparently the founding members of The Apples met in 1991 on a commuter bus in Denver. And they look like the types of guys who have nothing better to do than ride around on commuter buses and start bands. Their look is anything but commercial. But their sound- well, suffices to say you may have already heard it. Not in a “I’ve annoyingly heard that overly-commercialized song on the radio every 15 minutes” kind of way. More like a “I’m shopping at Banana Republic and I’m listening to this cool music that makes me feel hipper than I really am. I need to buy these $80 jeans” kind of way.
Best I can count to date they have released 8 albums and are left presently with one original member. Their latest album, Travellers In Space and Time was released in April of this year and was actually put out by actor Elijah Wood on his record label. Yes, you know him as “Frodo” from Lord of the Rings. “Gaaaandaaallf!!!”
Sorry. I couldn’t help myself.
“Dance Floor” is a big hit of theirs off their April album. When you hear their sound and then see what they look like, you may temporarily try to shake your computer, check the URL on the link and then fidget with the volume. But it’s the real deal. Don’t think about the whos or whys or even the hows. Just close your eyes and enjoy the sound.
